Your Child’s First Visit: What to Expect 

We know a first dental visit can feel like a big deal — for kids and parents! Our goal is to keep it positive, pressure-free, and fun. Here’s what a typical first visit at age 3 looks like: 

1. A warm welcome. We introduce your child to our team and let them explore the “big chair” at their own pace. 

1. A gentle look around. The dentist counts teeth, checks gums, and looks at how your child’s smile is developing. 

1. A gentle cleaning and fluoride, if your child is comfortable. 

1. Tips for home. We’ll show you (and your little one) the best ways to brush and floss growing teeth and answer all your questions.

At what age do you start seeing children? 

We welcome young patients starting at age 3. This is a wonderful age to begin regular dental visits — most children have all 20 baby teeth by then, and early checkups help build comfort with the dentist while catching any concerns early. 

How often should my family visit the dentist? 

For most patients — kids and adults alike — we recommend a checkup and professional cleaning every six months. Some patients with gum disease or a higher risk of cavities may benefit from more frequent visits, and we’ll tailor a schedule for each family member. 

Can you really see my whole family in one visit? 

Yes! One of the biggest benefits of a family dental practice is convenience. Our scheduling team is happy to arrange back-to-back or same-day appointments so you can take care of everyone’s smiles in a single trip to our Winder office. 

Do baby teeth really matter if they’re going to fall out anyway?

IV Sedation

For a moderate to high level of sedation we can use intravenous (IV) sedation. Under IV sedation you will be in a sleep-like state and you won’t remember your treatment.

Nitrous Oxide

Traditional laughing gas will provide a mild to moderate level of sedation that will wear off quickly after your treatment.
